Marie-Véronique Bourque and Christine Tassan

Bruissement boréal

Bruissement boréal: a new album coming out on May 9, 2025!

Bruissement boréal, is the story of a friendship and a creative union between two musicians from the Canadian jazz scene: Christine Tassan on guitar and Marie-Véronique Bourque on flute.

It is also the result of a challenge to compose new pieces remotely inspired by the sounds of nature in Quebec and Saskatchewan, where Christine and Marie-Véronique live. Five songs in five hours written by each simultaneously, taking into account the time difference. Five days of challenges, exchange, suggestions, new ideas shared, effects pedal tests, search for grooves and selection of songs to be developed.

In January 2024, it is in the enchanting setting of Domaine Forget (Quebec), that Christine and Marie-Véronique meet in person to continue their musical creative process and give life to Bruissement boréal, accompanied by double bassist David Meunier-Roy and percussionist and drummer Olivier Bussières. Recorded at Studio Opus in January 2025, Bruissement boréal will be launched at the Ministry (Montreal, QC) on May 16, 2025.

The album is a true ode to nature that surrounds us, inspires us, soothes us and without which we cannot exist!

Bruissement boréal: new show - season 2025-2026

Bruissements: composition of Christine.

Dialogue entre sauterelles: composition of Marie-Véronique.

Bruissement boréal adopts a richly blended style, shaped by the artists’ eclectic musical backgrounds, skillfully weaving together elements of traditional jazz, blues, Latin music, swing, and classical influences, and a touch of rock. The traditional jazz quartet is reimagined with originality, featuring an unconventional instrumentation: the flute (Marie-Véronique Bourque) and the guitar (Christine Tassan) take center stage, supported with finesse by the double bass (David Meunier-Roy) and drums/percussion (Olivier Bussières). A unique musical journey filled with joy, serenity, and depth.

Note: The show, created for a jazz quartet, can also be presented in trio or duo format.
